What happens if I'm using a site builder or custom theme?

If you are using a site builder or custom theme, the plugin may not be compatible. As an alternative, you can create audio in our Text-to-Speech Editor and embed the player manually.


Can I share my audio versions elsewhere?

Yes, there are many other ways to distribute audio versions of your WordPress posts and pages.

All of your audio versions will be available in the 'Content (Audios)' section of your BeyondWords project dashboard, where you can:

Can I embed other audio into my WordPress posts and pages?

Yes, you can manually embed any of your BeyondWords audio into your WordPress posts and pages. This includes audio created via CMS integration, uploaded audio, and audio created in our Text-to-Speech Editor.

  1. Get the iFrame embed code for your chosen audio and player type

  2. Go to your WordPress admin and open the post or page you would like to add audio to

  3. Add the iFrame code via the HTML view or a 'Custom HTML' block


Will the BeyondWords plugin slow down my website?

Our WordPress plugin should not slow down your website. We’ve designed BeyondWords to minimize any effect on latency. We’re also the only text-to-speech service that transcodes audio for HLS (HTTP Live Streaming), which splits audio into 15-second segments at different bit rates to ensure frictionless listening.


Troubleshooting and support

Before you begin troubleshooting, please make sure you have properly set up the WordPress plugin and consulted our guide to using the plugin.

Make sure you are using the latest version of our plugin

We recommend that you enable auto-updates to ensure you are always using the latest version of our plugin.

  1. Go to your WordPress admin

  2. Go to 'Plugins' then 'Installed Plugins'

  3. Find 'BeyondWords – Text-to-Speech'

  4. If an update is available, select 'Update now'

  5. If available, select 'Enable auto-updates'


Check the API response to your audio request

You can check the BeyondWords API response to an audio request via the BeyondWords column in the relevant posts overview section of your WordPress admin. (If you cannot see the column, you should be able to add it via 'Screen Options'.)

  • audio has not been requested (–)

  • audio has been requested (✓)

  • audio was requested but the Player has been disabled (✓ - Disabled)

  • there has been an error (you will see a ! warning symbol with an error code and description)

Error information

  • CMS updates disabled: This means that the audio has not been updated in line with changes to your WordPress post. (The previous version will remain.) This is because someone disabled CMS updates when editing the audio via BeyondWords.

Check the audio status

When audio has been requested for a page or post, you can see its status in the BeyondWords section of the Page/Post Settings Sidebar, as well as the dedicated BeyondWords sidebar.

You can also check audio status via your BeyondWords dashboard.

Once processed, the audio will be automatically embedded via the Small Player. An audio credit will be used each time a new audio is processed.


The audio player is not appearing

The audio player will only appear if audio has been requested and processed (please see the two FAQs above), and the 'Display player' box is checked on the post/page:

  1. Open the relevant post or page in your WordPress admin

  2. Open the BeyondWords sidebar

  3. Check 'Display player' then 'Update' your post or page


The audio doesn't sound right

If you are experiencing an audio issue, please report a voice issue via your BeyondWords dashboard. You can also request custom text-to-speech rules.


I haven't found a solution to my issue

If you are having issues with a specific post or page:

  1. Open the BeyondWords sidebar on the relevant post

  2. Go to ‘Inspect’ then select ‘Copy’

  3. Paste the copied details into your message to our support team
