Every BeyondWords plan comes with a character limit. This is the maximum number of characters that you can convert into audio each month, across all of the projects on your account. You can check or increase your character limit anytime.
The default character limits are:
Free: 30,000 characters/month
Creator: 500,000 characters/month
Pro: 4,000,000 characters/month
Enterprise: Custom character limit
There is a character counter in the bottom-left corner of your project dashboard(s). This shows you:
How many characters you have left
Your monthly character limit
The number of days until your character limit renews
The date that your character limit renews
You can increase your character limit by upgrading your plan. This will also give you immediate access to an increased project limit and other features — visit the 'Settings (Plan)' page in your dashboard to learn more.
Creator and Pro users also have the option to increase their character limit by adding one or more character boosters. Each character booster costs $50/month or $540/year and increases your character limit by 1,000,000 characters/month:
Sign into BeyondWords and go to any project dashboard
Select 'Add characters' in the bottom-left corner
Select 'Add character boosters'
Select or enter a payment method
Select 'Pay now'
Character boosters come into effect immediately, so you can start using your extra characters straight away. To make things easier for you, we will sync your character booster's billing period to your plan's billing period. And don't worry: if you add a character booster partway through your billing period, we will reduce your first bill accordingly.
How many characters do I need?
You can use our character estimator as a rough guide. These character estimates are based on 10,000 characters for a news article, 5,000 characters for a newsletter, and 25,000 characters for a white paper. These are multiplied by the average number of days (30.437) or weeks (4.345) in a month. On average, there are around 5 characters per word in English.
For a more accurate estimate, you may wish to run a representative sample of text through a character counter and make the calculations yourself. While you can upgrade your plan or add a character booster anytime, it’s a good idea to overestimate rather than underestimate your character requirements.
When will my character limit renew?
You can see the date that your character limit renews, and how many days away that is, via the character counter in the bottom-left corner of your project dashboard(s).
Your character limit renews each calendar month according to the time that your plan was created. For example, if you signed up at 13:43 UTC on 12 June, your character limit would renew at 13:43 UTC on 12 July, 13:43 UTC on 12 August, and so on. This applies even if you chose an annual subscription.
Will my unusued characters roll over to the next month?
No, unused characters will not roll over to the following month.
What happens to my character limit if I delete, disable, or edit audio?
Deleting or disabling audio will not restore characters.
What happens if I run out of characters?
If there are not enough characters available to process an audio, the audio will be skipped. (Learn more about audio statuses >)
This means that you will not be able to listen to or share the audio.
When enough characters become available, you can process any skipped audios. They will not process automatically.
Go to the 'Content (Audios)' section of your project dashboard
Hover on the skipped audio asset that you would like to process the audio for
Select '⋮' then 'Reprocess audio' — if enough characters are available, the audio should be processed within a few minutes
Can I add extra characters as a one-off?

How does billing work for character boosters?
To make things easier for you, we will sync your character booster's billing period to your plan's billing period:
You will pay a partial amount upfront to cover the remainder of your current billing period
Your character limit will immediately increase and renew on the usual date each month
Your future billing dates will not change
You will be billied in full on future billing dates, unless you cancel in the meantime
Can I cancel a character booster?
Yes, you can cancel your character booster(s) anytime by emailing [email protected]. The cancellation will come into effect at the end of the current billing period.
