The BeyondWords MCP lets you configure and manage your BeyondWords account from compatible AI assistants, including ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Visual Studio Code, and other apps that support remote MCP servers. Once connected, you can work with BeyondWords using natural-language prompts. You can also combine BeyondWords data and actions with your assistant’s own capabilities and other connected tools.

What you can do

With the BeyondWords MCP, you can:
  • Manage projects: Manage and create projects
  • Create and manage content: Create audio from text or a URL, regenerate audio, and manage existing content items
  • Explore analytics: Ask about performance across your organization, projects, and individual content items
  • Configure voices: Find available voices, inspect voice details, and manage the voices used by your projects
  • Manage pronunciation rules: Create and update rules that control how names, abbreviations, and other words or phrases are pronounced
  • Update player settings: Review and change player settings

Connect an AI assistant

To securely connect an AI assistant to your BeyondWords account:

Go to your profile

Log in to BeyondWords, click your profile picture → Profile.

Start a new connection

Go to Connected apps in the left-hand sidebar, then click + Connect.

Choose and connect an app

Choose which AI app you’d like to connect your account to, then follow the instructions to complete the connection:
Individual accounts (Free, Pro, Max):
  1. Copy the MCP server URL provided in BeyondWords
  2. In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors
  3. Click + → Add custom connector
  4. Enter a name for the connector, such as “BeyondWords”
  5. Paste the remote MCP server URL into the relevant field
  6. Click Add, then Connect to authenticate
Free accounts are limited to one custom connector.
Team and Enterprise plans:An Owner or Primary Owner must add the connector to the organization first:
  1. Copy the MCP server URL provided in BeyondWords
  2. In Claude, go to Organization settings → Connectors → Add
  3. Hover over Custom, then click Web
  4. Enter a name for the connector, such as “BeyondWords”
  5. Paste the remote MCP server URL into the relevant field, then click Add
Once the connector has been added to your organization, members can connect:
  1. In Claude, go to Customize → Connectors
  2. Find the BeyondWords connector and click Connect
  1. Copy the command provided in BeyondWords
  2. Paste and run the command in your terminal
  3. Run /mcp inside Claude Code to confirm the connection
  1. Copy the MCP server URL provided in BeyondWords
  2. Click the Open ChatGPT settings link provided in BeyondWords
  3. Scroll to Developer mode and use the toggle to enable it
  4. Close the dialog, select Plugins from the left-hand menu, then click +
  5. In the Name field, enter “BeyondWords”
  6. In the Connection field, paste the MCP server URL
  7. Check the box to confirm you approve the BeyondWords server, then click Create
  1. Follow the Add to VS Code link provided in BeyondWords — this opens VS Code and pre-fills the server details
  2. When prompted, confirm you want to add the server
  3. Sign in to BeyondWords when Copilot prompts you to authenticate
Once connected, the BeyondWords tools are available to Copilot Chat in agent mode.
  1. Follow the Add to Cursor link provided in BeyondWords — this opens Cursor and pre-fills the server details
  2. When prompted, confirm you want to add the server
  3. Open Cursor Settings → MCP and sign in to BeyondWords to complete authentication
Once connected, the BeyondWords tools are available in Cursor’s Agent chat.
  1. Copy the MCP server URL provided in BeyondWords
  2. In your AI app, look for the option to add a custom connector, plugin, or MCP server
  3. Follow your app’s instructions, pasting the MCP server URL into the relevant field
If your app doesn’t support remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP, it isn’t compatible with the BeyondWords MCP — this is the most common reason a connection attempt fails.

Complete authentication

You’ll be asked to sign in to BeyondWords and choose which permissions to grant. Grant both read and write permissions for full access to the BeyondWords MCP.Once authentication is complete, the connection is ready to use.

Example prompts

Once connected, try prompts such as:
  • “List my projects and show the number of listens each received last week”
  • “Create content in project 1234 from this article URL and tell me when the audio is ready”
  • “Show my best-performing audio content from the past 30 days”
  • “Add a pronunciation rule to my NE Daily project so that ‘NCL’ is pronounced ‘Newcastle’”
  • “Find the available British English voices and compare them”
  • “Update my player colors to match the styles in this codebase”
  • “Summarize last month’s listening data and create a report”
Available actions depend on the permissions you grant and the capabilities of the AI app you connect.

Permissions and security

MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools and data sources. The BeyondWords MCP creates a secure connection between your AI assistant and your BeyondWords account, authenticated using OAuth 2.1. You sign in directly to BeyondWords, so you never share your password or an API key with the connected app. It’s a hosted service, so there’s no local server to run. The MCP server is available at:
It uses Streamable HTTP for remote connections. Two scopes are available: Write tools are only available when the authorized token includes api.write. If you grant read-only access, your assistant receives a read-only set of BeyondWords tools.
Write access allows the connected assistant to make changes to your BeyondWords account. This includes deleting content items, voices, and pronunciation rules. Projects, analytics, languages, and player settings can be updated but not deleted. Review proposed changes before approving consequential actions.

How your data is used

Information retrieved from BeyondWords may become part of your conversation with the connected AI app. How that information is stored and used depends on the AI provider’s own policies, your subscription with them, and your settings in their app. Connecting an app does not make your BeyondWords data available to other users. Troubleshooting

Confirm that your app supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP. Depending on the app, this feature may be described as support for custom connectors, servers, or plugins.Popular apps such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and VS Code are compatible with the BeyondWords MCP. If you’re having trouble connecting, get support.Apps that support only local MCP servers are not compatible with the BeyondWords MCP.
If tools for creating, updating, duplicating, regenerating, or deleting resources are not working, you may have granted read-only access.To grant write access, remove and reconnect the app. When prompted, make sure you grant both read and write permissions.
To disconnect an AI app from your BeyondWords account:
  1. In BeyondWords, click your profile picture then select Profile
  2. Go to Connected apps
  3. Click Revoke next to the app you want to disconnect
